Notice for new visa requirements for U.S. Citizen and others Travelers

to Central African Republic (CAR)

The Embassy of Central African Republic would like to inform that the Government of CAR has just clarified changes to its visa policy, with immediate effect.

All travelers must  apply for visa for entry into the Central African Republic.

Below, the new procedures for processing visa applications:

  • For official travelers with official or diplomatic passport :

        No change. Visa applications will be processed by the Embassy.

  • Visa policy for tourists, visit, personal convenience, has not changed.

  • Travelers on behalf of International Organizations (U.N, E.U, B.M, F.M.I ) and NGOs ( M.S.F, Mercy Corp, World Vision…)  or anyone entering CAR to work for any Embassy (contractors), must first request permission from the CAR Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

The sponsoring/inviting/local organization for the traveler/ employee /representative, must submit an application to MFA in Bangui.

If the application is approved, the MFA will inform the CAR Embassy where the individual will next need to apply for the visa.

  • Beneficiaries of a courtesy visa, or visa exemption, within the framework of a headquarters agreement or specific agreement, must also submit entry visa applications to MFA in Bangui.

Please be aware that the other requirements for an entry visa into CAR do not change.

See below:

  1. A valid passport 

  2. One visa application form dully completed and signed by the applicant.  

  3. One (01) identity passport-size color photographs with white background 

  4. A letter from the applicant’s employer confirming that the applicant will return back to U.S.A in order to resume his/her duties after the visit. 

  5. Visa Fee 

    •  Short Stay (0-1 month): $150 

    •   Medium Stay (2 months- 3 months): $200 

    •   Long Stay (3 months and more) $250 

    •  Applications by mail: fees must be paid with money order or check payable to Freddy Arsene Kore Administrative and financial Counselor to the Embassy. Do not send cash payments by mail! ENCLOSE :

  6. self-addressed prepaid return envelope with a tracking number ; 

  7. Yellow fever Immunization is required. A COPY OF THE VACCINATION CARD is accepted ; 

  8. Flight itinerary; 

  9. Invitation letter from the inviting party in Central African Republic; or hotel reservation; 

  10. For Official Passports, a letter from the US Department of State or any other Diplomatic mission is require: 

  11.  Applications in person: fees can be paid in cash or money order 

  12. All visa requests take 48 HOURS.
